Cemetery information:- (Information by the contributor, Walter Smit, referring to the Heritage Assessment Report compiled in 2007 by the late Mr. Cobus Dreyer, P.R. Archeologist / Heritage Resource Specialist) "I also found a heritage impact study that was done in 2007, because they wanted to mine there. In this report there were several photos of graves, notes on the names and some GPS coordinates. So I went there last month to go take better photos myself, but found that the graveyard was basically buried under probably a half-meter of sand and completely overgrown. It wasn’t even possible to take an “overview” photo – it just looks like bush. I did manage to find one headstone with legible inscription." The report indicates that at the time (2007), Mr Dreyer found about 58 graves. Quoted from the report:- "Some graves are covered with round stones, while others have the conventional inscribed gravestone made out of sandstone. The following inscriptions could be deciphered: GL MAARTENS Born 2/11/1910 Died 2/1/1911 Margaret Gertruida NICHOLS Born 10/2/1908 Died 5/5/1910 Magrieta Gertruida PUTTER Born 10/10/1910 Died 10/1/1911 Ancova? VAN HEERDEN Born 12/2/1899 Died ? *Admin note: on the photo it looks like Jacoba, not Ancova, if this photo refers to the one we have a photograph for) Hendriena Alida COETZEE Born 26/7/1876 Died at the age of 8 months. M.J.P. BADENHORST (BAEHNISCH) Born 1/12/1895 Died 1/8/1903" *Admin note: The correct surname is BAEHNISCH, not BADENHORST as in the report. The dates have also been corrected. (The above information is from Mr Dreyer's report. There were no legible photographs except for the MAARTINS, BAEHNISCH, VAN HEERDEN and PUTTER graves available) According to the report, there is another cemetery, and two inscriptions were deciphered, although there are no photographs available.
