RANDALL Avro Gordon 1920-1999 and Nancy Patricia Mei BOAST -1999
Additional information regarding the stone received from Mr Randall (son of the above):-
Note that the inscription on the stone might be miss-leading. Avro Gordon Randall married Nancy Patricia Mei Boast in 1944. He passed away early in 1999 and was buried in the Settler cemetery. My mother followed about six months later and her preference was to be cremated. Her ashes were buried in Dad’s grave. So the picture you have might better be titled “Randall Avro G and Patricia”. Dad had an unusual first name - but he had no third name! (The origin of his first name? A Britain named A.V. Roe created a company manufacturing airplanes, producing models like the Avro 504 - used from the end of WW I, mainly for training - the Avro Anson - and, of course, the Avro Lancaster. Dad was born in 1920, in Port Alfred at about the same time as there was great excitement in the town because the first airplane to land there – an Avro – landed, I believe, on the mud flats East of the river – where the marina is today. So Dad was named Avro and a female relative, born at the same time, was named Avrine [Elliot]).
