MILNE Arthur John -1940
DR . ARTHUR JOHN MILNE, for fifteen years Medical Officer of Health for Johannesburg, died at Johannesburg October 23rd. at the age of 61. Dr. Milne was a Lieutenant-Colonel (specialist hygiene officer) in the Union Defence Forces, and a past president of the South African Health Officials' Association. He was born and educated at Aberdeen, Scotland where he obtain ed his M.B., Ch.B. in 1901. He came out to South Africa as a civil surgeon in the Anglo-Boer War and later on entered the Health Service of Mauritius. In 1914 he was appointed assistant M.O.H. under the late Dr.Porter at Johannesburg. He served with the South Africa n General Hospital in East Africa in 1916 but was recalled to resume duty at Johannesburg in the absence of Dr. Porter on war service . After Porter's retirement Milne succeeded him as M.O.H. of Johannesburg which post he held at the time of his death. (source: S.A. Medical Journal 1940)
