BATTLE OF TALANA The first battle of the Anglo-Boer War occurred here on 20 October 1899, between a British force from the camp in Dundee commanded by Major General Sir William Penn SYMONS and Boers commanded by General Lucas MEYER, who occupied Talana and Lennox Hills. After a severe action the Boers withdrew.
