Cemetery information:- Offices located in Chris Hani drive. HEERDEN Carel Sebastian, van c. 1799-04.1854 married to Johanna Hendrina DU PREEZ 1804-1872 Voortrekker Carl Van Heerden established the first farm in this area at the Mineral Springs and named it Het Bad. At this time the area in and around the mineral springs was a swampland. In 1873, following the death in 1872 of van Heerden's widow, the Honorable President Burger of the then South African Republic (ZAR) saw the tourism and recreational opportunities that Het Bad had to offer. He proposed the purchase of the farm from the joint estate of the late Johanna Hendrina du Preez and her second husband, Cornelis Jacobus Minnaar. The ZAR at first refused the proposal but when President Burger wanted to purchase Het Bad from his own funds they accepted the proposal and bought the farm from the estate.
