1. Memorial plaque

The inscription on the plaque: (Supplied by Charles Leach, from his book "The Legend of Breaker Morant is dead and buried") On July 1901 a Bushveldt Carbineers patrol under command of Sgt. Maj. Morrison confronted a group of 6 Burgers who were travelling to Elim Hospital. Their wagon was under white flags. Five of them were lined up alongside their wagon and shot dead. The 6th member, J.J.Geyser was too weakened by fever to alight from the wagon and was shot dead on his bed. The victims were: J.J. VERCUIL (31) J.J. GEYSER (65) F.G.J. POTGIETER (18) P.J. GEYSER (12) J.C. GREYLING (25) ? VAN HEERDEN (?)
