"Kirkness bricks were made in Pretoria brickyard, starting in 1888 by Mr. JJ Kirkness that established John J Kirkness Ltd and built the Kirkness Brik Factory in Groenkloof Pretoria under the name of Groenkloof Brick, Tile and Pottery Works.
These bricks/roof tiles and flower pots were also used to build/decorate UNISA Sunnyside Campus, Raadsaal for the Transvaal Republic and The Union Buildings as well as Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town."
