“A short translation consists of the following: “In 1877 WARBURTON fell off his horse and died. With no English preacher in the vicinity elder van Schalkwyk of the Dutch Reformed Church was asked to bury him. Also a woman was buried here. Many years later Prof. S.P.Engelbrecht of the church referred to this episode which showed the relationship between the Afrikaans and English communities.’A Boer was asked to bury an Englisman’.”
