Cemetery information:- The De Oude begraafplaas der Hugenoten was created c 1760 on the farm La Motte in the district of Franschhoek. There is a sign board 'La Motte BP' to indicate the turn off to the cemetery. Juna Malherbe at the Huguenot Museum explains that no Huguenot's are buried in this cemetery. It was in fact used by the citizens of Franschhoek; therefore considered an artificial Huguenot cemetery! Looking at the photos you get the impression that you are looking at gemstones; rather than graves! Most stones are without any information. In same cases you will only find the initials of the deceased on the stone, or a date; which turned out to be quite a challenge when we had to do the labels. Only the stones with some data on were photographed. Thank you to Juna Malherbe and the Franschhoek Huguenot museum who made the cemetery's information available to us. Album complete, we have photographs of all the headstones. eGGSA captions by: Alta Griffiths, Richard Ball & Riana le Roux.
