Lt. G.H. FITZGERALD: Royal Durban Light Infantry. "......Gen PIENAAR's tac headquarters moved to 3rd S A Infantry Bde as some 800 German Infantry with motor vehicles attempted to advance on the RDLI and were met by intense artillery, machine-gun and mortar fire. They failed to penetrate the minefield and the tanks which followed at about 2h25 pm were heavily shelled, but [they] shot up pill-boxes killing Lt. G.H. FITZGERALD." Pg 372 from ORPEN, N.
